Reud Mood Live @ The Zoo

If you grabbed three long haired dudes, gave them insane talent and instruments then threw them amongst a galaxy of coloured lights and psychedelic beats you would have Reud Mood.

Catching them live for the third time I was instantly reminded why I am such a huge fan; Reud Mood’s music is more than just sound, its an emotional journey inside the mind of Reud Mood. You ride the waves of space and time, you feel their energy like a strobe light flash to the chest and you’re swept off your feet and taken to an alternate universe, to the universe that is Reud Mood.

Kicking off their set with some new tunes, it was awesome to see the boys shaking up their set list and keeping fans on their toes. Just as groovy and loving it as usual, the boys were on a new level of musical mastery, feeling the chemistry between the three boys made hearing these new beats so much more exciting and refreshing. Most of Reud Mood’s tracks are around the 5-7 minute mark which seems crazy for a live set but they just make it work and its magic. There isn’t a minute where you aren’t absorbed in the music and not a second where your eyes aren’t glued to the stage wanting more.

Releasing the EP Visions and Happenings last year meant the boys had fan favourites they were ready to slay. Visions of Planet Orange was the kicker track for the night the crowd knew the beats and were pumped, and Reud Mood performed this track to perfection. VOPO is a forever evolving anthem of almost 9 minute duration, like the theme song for a high speed chase, where every turn and beat are dangerous but perfectly meshed together, risky and insane but flawlessly timed and in the finish you make it out alive.

Guitarist Bradshaw’s fingers were moving at the speed of light, catchy riff after whammy chord were flying like colours from his tips into a spellbound crowd of valley outcasts that were more than ready to feel the fire. Drummer Luke was producing some of the cleanest most beautiful beats I’d ever heard and mastered the intentional silence art perfectly,  you could have heard a pin drop. Fully engulfed into his Reud Mood persona, bassist and key master Cameron was the show man, leaping, flying and grooving around the stage, oblivious to spellbound onlookers.

One thing you really have to admire with Reud Mood is the incredible ability to perform their insanely technical songs live. Their timing, clarity and cleanliness is incredible and their attention to detail of each strum, crash and synth note is placed in a sequence that weaves a story, a personal journey of time and space that affects us all so differently.

The kicker is with Reud Mood that no matter how many good things I say about them I could never do them justice. Seeing them live is an out of this world experience that everyone should feel lucky to be apart of. They are not just music, they are a feeling, they are freshly brushed teeth, a cold beer on a hot day, your favourite sandwich, a hug and all things good about home baked sweets. Reud Mood are a must see band and for those who have, you will know what I’m talking about.

If you missed out on catching Reud Mood at The Zoo then make sure you get your butt to the Sunshine Coast and watch them play live supporting Hobo Magic and Horsehunter with Fish Milkshake on July 3.
