Snakehips Live @ The Flying Cock

Snakehips rapidly made their stamp on the electronic music scene with Hype Machine chart-topping remixes for Banks, The Weeknd, Bondax and Wild Belle. Since first meeting and deciding to collaborate almost five years ago, the much hyped producers, James Carter and Oliver Lee, have been smashing it. Their name has featured on the bill for festivals such as Splendour In The Grass and Groovin The Moo while their blend of bright pop melodies and dusty R&B beats continue to gain them new fans.

Although I have had the opportunity to see them live before I missed out, so with new singles under their belt and my added excitement to finally see them perform meant you could say expectations were at an all time high. Snakehips performed above and beyond my expectations and not just to me but a completely SOLD OUT group of super fans!

With their name in lights displayed loud and proud on their DJ table, Snakehips graced the stage to a crowd that was already loosing their minds as they chanted “SNAKEHIPS” . The pair began with a cleverly crafted mix of popular singles including Fake Love by Drake and Get Right by J Lo, it was clear from the start that despite their own personal success they still loved to put together a solid remix.

Energy was at an all time high as the packed out crowd danced and sung their hearts out to ever genre hopping banger Snakehips mashed together. There wasn’t one moment of silence, whether the crowd was screaming or the beats were pumping it was like every sound moulded together like a well crafted musical sandwich. During some unfamiliar upbeat tracks the bass was so heavy I could feel the pin point prickles of sound waves hitting every bit of my body it was like I couldn’t only hear the music I was feeling it.

Half an hour had gone by and I was starting to worry that I ended up at another electronic gig where the act didn’t bother to play any of their own tracks. But that worry quickly subsided as the crowd blasted into song during Snakehips single Cruel featuring ZAYN. The strobes and lasers followed the beat of the song while a cloud of smoke billowed out over of the mosh like a fluffy white blanket completely filling the room.

The biggest applause for the night was reserved for Snakehips latest single Don’t Leave featuring . Not only did the floor underneath my feet start leaping but on stage Snakehips were dancing around as well. The catchy lyrics were sung by everyone in the room and even though the single was played near the end of their set the energy coming from both on stage and off was bonkers.

Between remixes of Crank That by Soulja Boy and The Buzz by Hermitude I didn’t think this show could get any better or if the fans and Snakehips even had any more energy to give. I was clearly mistaken as the duo showed their appreciation for those who made it out on a Thursday night and confirmed this was in fact their last song as they pressed play on their breakthrough single All My Friends. Everyone was sweaty, drinks were flowing, bodies were moving it was absolutely insane and I loved every minute of it.

Snakehips played a show I will forever remember, their setlist was perfect, their energy was flawless and not one person walked out of that room without a smile on their face.
