Q&A || Concrete Surfers

Brisbane garage rockers Concrete Surfers are supporting Ocean Alley at The Elephant Hotel Garden Block Party this Sunday (May 28).  The bands will be killer, the drinks will be flowing and to top it off its a FREE EVENT! Make sure you catch these boys in action for some mosh friendly surf and skate inspired rifftastic magic!

How did you come up with the name Concrete Surfers?

The name ‘Concrete Surfers’ actually didn’t come from us. We were in a pretty ongoing predicament about what our name should be, it even got to the point where we were looking at Band name Generators online and then after one of our daily trips to the skate park one of our Dads called us ‘Concrete Surfers’ so we settled on that.

How did Concrete Surfers become a band?

We first formed at music class in high school as a cover band (a couple of best mates who wanted to jam some of our favorite tunes) and have been stuck together ever since.

How would you best describe your sound?

Mosh friendly Garage Rock with Surf/Skate inspired riffs.

What are some of your musical influences?

The Strokes, Nirvana, FIDLAR, Hockey Dad, Surf Curse, Violent Soho, Dune Rats & Ricky Martin to name a few.

You are playing the elephant garden party this month supporting Ocean Alley, how did you score the gig?

We’re not entirely sure… but we are very stoked about it!

What are you looking forward to the most about this show?

We’re super hyped to be playing with Ocean Alley and Surfin bird’. Can’t wait to see them kill it.

For those who haven’t seen you live before what can they expect from your live shows?

Lots of boogying (we hope), A bit of roughhousing, beer, banter, sweaty clothes, a mullet and tired eardrums.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Definitely playing our first interstate show in Newcastle NSW, the crowd and overall vibes were unreal and many memories were made.

What was it like playing at The Blurst Of Times Festival?

The Blurst of Times Festival was a hoot! Very well organised and the lineup was killer. The audience was full of punters similar to us and was a very loose night.

Did you check out any bands on the lineup?

Between us we pretty much got to check out all the bands on the lineup and no one disappointed; our favourites would have to be Horror My Friend, Good boy, Sweater Curse, The Creases and Skegss.

Any new music or upcoming gigs we should know about?

Yep! We’re currently in the process of recording a brand spanking single and we are super excited to announce that we are supporting Royal Blood for their Splendour In The Grass sideshow in Sydney July 20th!

When you are relaxing, what music do you play in the background?

90’s hip hop, ‘You can call me Al’ by Paul Simon, Cannibal Corpse and old Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What’s your go too after show snack and bevvy?

Chow Mein and a XXXX Gold.
