The Iron Eye Live @ The Foundry

Having been on the road through summer promoting their new record ‘Foreign Bodies’, Brisbane’s rising rock stars The Iron Eye were home to play the last show of their tour at Brisbane’s Foundry.

The crowd was waiting in anticipation as for some this was the first time they would here tracks from the Foreign Bodies EP live. Fans started to gather towards the front of the stage as the first note of Africa by Toto started to play and everyone started to sing along. The Iron Eye then graced the stage with massive smiles upon their faces as they came to realise just how many people had shown up for their hometown show.

Kicking off their set with EP title track Foreign Bodies, The Iron Eye blew our eardrums with their intense and full bodied rocking sound and the crowd was instantly hooked. 40 seconds into the track and the funky riffs had everyone who was standing up the back sucked to the front like they were magnetised to join the already dancing moshpit. The boys then merged into one of their older tracks Apocalypta, before kicking off my favourite track Where Do Y0u Go.

Where Do You Go is a song that gets your blood pumping, your body moving and your arms punching to the ceiling. Nicks vocals sit so perfectly with the track that its almost like listening to the mixed and mastered version live. The fast paced drums from Antonio hit you like a bag of bricks to the chest and Daves bass creates that full bodied second guitar bass tone we love. For a band of 3, The Iron Eye produce the sound of 10 and the rock breakdown during Where Do you Go just emphasises that.

Next was their single Silence, which has a more hard rock feel than most of their other songs. Even though its pretty slow paced for rock, Silence is so grungy and almost dirty that you virtually loose your body and mind to the song. The Iron Eye also had a little secret up their sleeve when they unveiled a new and never before heard song and it was f***ing killer! Loud, fast and powerful it was in your face and you wanted it to be there as well as giving fans an in sight into whats to come from these talents dudes.

Known for covering Australia electronic duos, The Iron Eye smashed a rock version of Addicted To Bass by Puretones which brought out the “wowooowowaaaaa” in all of us. Then the crowd was brought back to their early tunes again with hit single Different which is always a party starter and you can tell the boys still really love to play it.

Then the moment we had all be waiting for, Nick left the stage and Culpa film clip star Nick Lethal (Nick as a 70’s rocker) made his debut to the stage. “I stole Nick Lythalls girl and now I’m going to steal his crowd”. The crowd erupted with chants and whistles as the The Iron Eye lead into the funked up EP opener Culpa. The crowd favourite was definitely closing track Just Started and it wasn’t a surprise that the killer catchy chorus was known and sung by everyone. Finishing their set on a high The Iron Eye performed the perfect set list that took fans on a musical roller coaster from old to new and fast to slow and not a person left the room without a smile on their face.

More confident then ever, The Iron Eye put all their energy towards their performance and the connection with the crowd. These boys had music flowing out of them so naturally its like they could do it in their sleep. The lights were insane, the crowd was going crazy and it was so awesome to finally see these guys completely coming into their own and being so proud of the work they produced.

Out of the 4 times I’ve seen The Iron Eye this was by far the best I’d ever seen them perform. They were tight, they were rehearsed, they had so much energy and because of that their wasn’t a still person in the room. They are now officially the seasoned pros I thought they were when they opened for Shihad in July and I suggest you see them play before it costs $150 per ticket. ROCK ON!
