BIGSOUND NIGHT TWO

BIGSOUND night 2 brought all the goodies to Fortitude Valley. After meeting some of the stars while serving brekky at Rics, I was more then ready to watch the ruckus, Bring It On!

Ceres @ The Zoo
Travelling behind the masses who had shown up to see Ceres play, The Zoo was transformed in to a sea of people as the ceiling fans tried their hardest to keep everybody cool. Merging to the front like a sea pit of band worshippers, Ceres took to the stage and kicked off their first note. Starting their set with recent hit single Happy In Your Head, the crowd was leaping and bounding with the band from the very start. Playing their killer track Loaf, Ceres started a 3 man dance party with the exception of the drummer with instruments flying around as every strum became louder and the crowd lost control. Funky riff after raunchy drum beat was played throughout their set as lead singer Tom kept the crowd hyped by announcing his appreciation between almost every track. Creating an ambient sound when tuning their guitars Ceres made every minute count on the stage, we loved it, they loved it and they absolutely smashed it.

Circles @ Crowbar
Synth Metal? I think that is the best way to describe Circles whose individual approach to metal took me by surprised and I loved it. Right from the start lead vocalist Perry locked a connection with the crowd like nothing I’d seen before. Every lyric was like a dagger to the chest and during tracks such as The Frontline his eyes met with every fan like some sort of bond was being made between band and crowd. Angry and passionate, Circles created ambient riffs with more breakdowns than you could shake a stick at. Showcasing how well rehearsed and tight they were as a band by the second song, Circles kept their energy high and their guitar squats down low.

Japanese Wallpaper @ The Brightside
The Brightside outdoor stage was my favourite from the BIGSOUND venue crawl because nothing beats the festival feel of live music in the open. Japanese Wallpaper was lucky enough to occupy said stage and bringing along with him half the BIGSOUND punters. Although the floor was packed with bodies they were not fazed in the slightest and every member played like a seasoned pro. Simplistic but pretty, Japanese Wallpaper kicked off their latest single Cocoon as a wave of swaying synth music blew out of their instruments and over the crowd. Perfect for a sun set dance party, vocalist Gab Strum has the voice of relaxation. It can remind you have home, make you feel warm and it could even bring out the hidden tiny dancer within.

Sydonia @ Crowbar
Playing so loud that even my earplugs couldn’t save me killer metal band Sydonia were electric for the closing of BIGSOUND at Crowbar. Sydonia were fast paced and heavy and nothing was going to stop them from blowing our brains out with their tunes. Dedicated fans were rocking out at the front, heads banging and arms punching, the lights flashed over the band and their instruments as they slayed each note to the finish. True to their unique sound, Sydonia sounded as raw and passionate as they did on their latest single Eyes Of Sand which was released earlier this year.
