What do you get when you bring three pop-punk bands together and ask them to cover love songs? One corny night full of love, drinks, dancing and a set full of classics!
It was Valentine’s Day Eve and the kids came out to get down at The Brightside for their traffic light love covers night. Kicking off the night was Gold Coast punks Double Lined Minority (DLM) with a high energy set. They were determined to make you feel the love from the start to finish. As always, frontman Eddie was just as wild and loud as his crazy hair. Double Lined Minority obviously loved their time on stage with bursts of crazy faces, funky dancing, and physical elation.
They played early and people were just arriving but it didn’t faze DLM in the slightest. Playing tracks from their ‘Secondary Colours’ EP and a few added extras, the boys played like it was a packed house, sending all their positive vibes straight out into the crowd throughout their high energy performance. Interestingly, they were the only band not to include a cover in their set. But honestly they sure didn’t need any as you could stick DLM in a retirement village’s Christmas show and they would still bring the bloody roof down!
Admit One were up next and a few more people had graced the dance floor prepared to shake their thing by the time the first beat dropped. Covering songs such as Right Back At It Again by A day To Remember and tracks by Neck Deep, the crowd went off and responded enthusiastically to the chosen set list. Admit One were so relaxed and fluent with their movements that it was hard to look away. Their interactions with the crowd were natural and they truly made an effort to show their appreciation for those who had made it to their set.
The Brightside put on an excellent light show for Admit One who explored multiple tempo changes and exotic dance moves as the beams of light shone over their performance. You could tell these guys were best friends not only because of their shared passion for music, but how they took complete ownership of the stage and rocked out like no one was watching…although they definitely loved the receptive crowd!
We Are Servants absolutely ruled as the winners for the best set of love classics for the night! Paramore’s track Crush Crush Crush was in the mix, while Dan Wood from Admit One hopped up and helped with their killer pop-punk cover of Kelly Clarkson’s Since You’ve Been Gone. There were mic grabs, leaping, screaming, running, and the crowd in return were basically daredevils high on pop punk tunes.
Eddie from DLM also joined the set for their last song, Bruno Mars’ Just The Way You Are, for which the crowd went absolutely ballistic! Everyone sung along so loud those on stage were pretty much drowned out. As a cherry on top of an amazing set, confetti was thrown in the air and several random mosh hugs were shared. We Are Servants had plenty of banter with the happy faced and attentive crowd, giving the best wrap up for a pre-Valentine’s Day as it came to a close. Best Pre Valentine’s Day Ever!!
