Splendour In The Grass 2019 Wrap Up!

THE CROWD

This year at Splendour In The Grass the crowd was a far younger mix than the past three years I have been. I felt like there were a lot more punters between the ages of 18-28 unlike last year were the fast majority were in the 25+. People were also a lot more patient this year, less people cut in line for the toilets, people in the bar lines were more polite, campers were more respectful. It was definitely the best Splendour I have been to crowd wise.

FASHION

Out with the see through dresses and g-strings and in with the flare patterned pants and Himalayan mountain climbing suits. I’m not sure whether people learnt from last years arctic temperatures and decided to wear clothes this year or whether people are realising that they can wear what they feel comfortable in and still have a bomb festival look. Other trends included leopard print, head scarfs, skirt and denim jacket co-ord sets, harley davidson tees and of course dr martins.

FOOD

The food this year was phenomenal. Nothing beats a poutine from the Chippery or a Gozleme from Ryan Gozlemes. This years addition of Boost meant I ended up with an original mango crusher almost every other day paired with some noodles. R.I.P to my Byron Bay donut addiction, I had been thinking about them for months but unfortunately they weren’t at Splendour this year. (Definitely a bigger upset than Chance The Rapper cancelling…. #notsoz).

WEATHER

With flawless weather during the day you could forgive the cold nights. But the temperatures were still nothing compared to last year were as the sun came down it was a dance or die situation.

HIGHLIGHTS

American rapper Russ on the Mix Up Stage Day 1!

Childish Gambino, Dean Lewis & Ocean Alley Day 2!

Last Dinosaurs & Hilltop Hoods Day 3!

STAFF

Apart from the awful female security officer at the Amphitheatre on day three who almost hit me with the crowd control pole I felt like this year was run really smoothly and respectfully. There have been years were security especially on the main gate have been really sleezy and a little inappropriate but that definitely wasn’t the case this year. Apart from the overwhelming amount of unnecessary NSW police who spent more time eating and chatting to each other than actually doing anything the vast majority of staff on duty did a fantastic job. All the volunteers were far more informed about the festival, security were respectful and patient, the lighting and sound guys absolutely killed it and this made for a very enjoyable and relaxing 4 days.

Sending a huge thank you to Splendour In The Grass for another fantastic year!
