Performing at this years Mountain Goat Valley Crawl is Brisbane teen rapper Mallrat! After seeing her perform alongside Thundamentals, to rocking the Falls Festival stage within months we decided it was about time we had a chat to find out more about girl behind Mallrat.
How did you come up with the stage name Mallrat?
How long have you been performing?
I’ve been doing shows for just under a year.
How did you and your DJ become musical partners?
Denim went to school with me! She was a boarder and I was a day girl. She was always on Soundcloud in English so I asked her if she wanted to be my DJ.
As a solo artist, do you write all your music on your own? Or do you have people you like to use to bounce ideas off of?
I write everything but I like to work with other producers or instrumentalists for beats.
You’ve just recently finished touring with Thundamentals and Pez. How was that experience?
So fun! Everybody on that tour was so sweet, such a beautiful group of people.
What did you miss the most while on tour?
My dog Charlie :’(
Its just been announced that your playing at this years Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, how are you feeling?
Excited! It’s always fun to play a show at home (Brisbane) and it’s so cool that it’s free as well.
For fans who haven’t seen you live before, what can they expect from your live performance?
Heaps of love and dancing, the crowds at my shows are so nice and beautiful that I want to cry.
What song do you enjoy playing live the most?
I play a cover of Pop Style by Drake and Kanye, that’s my favourite.
Are there any artists on the lineup that you’ll be heading along to see?
Gill Bates, Moses Gunn Collective and Waax.
What inspired you to become a musician?
An Allday concert I went to in year 11.
When you are relaxing, what music do you play in the background?
I have a playlist on Spotify called ‘So Nice’, it has heaps of John Mayer on it.
