Ceres Live @ Crowbar

90’s pop rock group from Melbourne Ceres took to the stage on Friday at Brisbane’s Crowbar in celebration of their latest album ‘Drag It Down On You’.

Although 40 minutes late to the stage, the crowd totally forgave the wait as the band kicked off their set with their latest popular single Happy In Your Head. For a postage stamp sized the stage Ceres did well to take over the space leaping around and thrashing their heads to the beat of their own drum.  Energy was at an all time high and the overall vibe was like a good old fashioned garage gig and with the record lined bookshelf  backdrop for the show adding to the old school flavour. There was a room full of super fans that made damn sure Ceres knew they appreciated their performance and Ceres did not disappoint.

Catchy and repetitive guitar tones that are a real hook for the listener is something Ceres is famous for and they delivered in spades. The crowd absolutely lost it during Laundry Echo with every lyric screamed in unison back to the band. The songs chorus has the band playing a loud fast ruckus and then bang, straight to a clean quiet beat, I have often wondered just how good it would sound live. The boys didn’t have one note out of place, it was executed perfectly and the crowd was totally blown away by their attention to detail.

Ceres is a band who leaves everything on the stage, and each member is exceptionally talented. Lead vocalist Tom has such raw power behind his vocals that each hard hitting note is sung with ease and passion. Frank on the drums was hitting every note so cleanly its like he was a robot and Rhys on Guitar and Grant on the bass played like they could do it in their sleep loudly and proud.

Although I had to wait so long to see them, the were more than worth the wait and the boys should be proud of their new performance. If you haven’t checked out their latest album ‘Drag It Down On You Yet’ let your ears hear the magic and make sure you catch Ceres live.
